Have you been looking at your window treatments lately and been wondering, despite blocking the light and being an okay color, they really don’t do much to make your space feel well-designed? There’s a reason for this, and it’s most likely one of the following:
The drapery panels or shades aren’t correctly sized for the window opening
The pleating or hardware details lack some TLC
The window covering needs another layer of drapery to feel complete
Let us help you figure out which of these needs fits your current situation and work towards a solution that works best for you!
SIZING
Big box stores often carry drapery panels that are too short, too narrow, or too long to hang properly, hence why it’s always a better investment to go custom. Drapery panels should touch the floor or hang no more than an inch above the ground, and the panels themselves should be twice the width of the window it’s meant to cover. The drapery rod should be placed 10 inches past each side of the window and also 10 inches above the window trim.
If your window require shades or blind, like most windows these days, you’ll be looking for a more precise inside-mount measurement and for more ways to conceal the mounting hardware. This is especially important when installing any motorized window treatments. For this, it’s better to work with a designer and get custom drapery, so they take care of the measurements for you.
2. LAYERING
A well-designed space will have layered window treatments. This adds texture and color to the room while also ensuring it fits in with the other design elements. Drapery panels are a great solution to this problem, but they’re rarely used alone in professionally designed spaces. Adding a different type of shade or blind to the space will make your windows more versatile and beautiful while also providing some depth.
3. DETAILS
It’s all about the details when it comes to custom drapery. Pleating styles, fabric colors, textures, and patterns, and hardware designs (oh my!)… these all play a major roll in what the final result will look like. If you have a hard time deciding on which hardware to pair with that fabric you fell in love with, you would benefit from having custom drapery made for you space. That’s where we come in!
Not only do we take care of all the measurements and the installation details, but we also address the hard-to-decide-on details, like determining which color palettes, textures, and hardware pair well together. All these aspects can vary from room to room, so let us do the heavy lifting for you.
