I can remember color having an influence on me from a very early age. At about 10 years old, I designed my room in black and white. I displayed all drawings and artwork, which were mostly colorful, on the walls of my room. I loved the way the artwork felt on the black and white palette. Color has impacted me since.
Color creates moods, so keep in mind what mood you would like to instill in your home when selecting fabrics for your window treatments. Here’s what you need to know…
1. Colors Mean Different Things to Different People
Colors in the blue family bring peace, green connects to nature and also tends to feel peaceful (but that also depends on what shade of green you use). Colors such as red and orange bring energy to a space.
There are common mood associations with color but everyone's experience of color is different. I personally wouldn't want red drapes in my bedroom since it would keep me up at night, but you may love red and be fine with it.
2. Colors Have the Ability to Influence Your Mood
If you mix any color with a neutral, it will create a more soothing effect. A softer, more muted green will bring about a different feel than an energetic lime green. Keep this in mind with color as well.
Our drapery company sends a preliminary questionnaire to all our prospective clients to give us an idea of what you would like in your home. We will also give you feedback when we come to your home based on the furnishings you have and the mood you want to create.
If in doubt about color, think about what colors look good on you or what colors you prefer to wear. This may be a good starting point.
3. Color Palettes Should Flow Well Throughout Your Home
Our firm will help you select fabrics, keeping in mind that you may want to create a different mood in your bedroom than you do in a home office. We have been creating custom window treatments since 2003 and we are confident in coming up with ideas you will love.
Our firm is a big believer in colors flowing from one space to the other. Whole house palettes are recommended for at least the main areas of your home. Spaces that are totally separate, such as your kids’ rooms, may warrant another palette.
Just like the black and white palette inspired me in my early years, I still get inspired by various color palettes and see the beauty in all of them. The important thing to us is helping you create the feel you want in your home.
We believe a beautiful home inspires you to reach your dreams and live a fulfilling life. Professional window coverings have a huge impact on a space. We would love to help you in your color selection journey.
