How to Select Window Treatments You Won't Regret

Have you ever ordered a shade that is too sheer in an area that gets direct sunlight or failed to add blackout lining to shades or drapery for a bedroom? Perhaps you ordered store bought drapery that was too short. In cases like this, the window covering causes problems versus correcting an issue.

Our firm has been designing and selling window coverings for 17 years now and, in the process, we have come across every possible window treatment problem and provided solutions for each one of these clients.

When selecting a window covering company to help you with your window treatments, here are 5 key qualities to look for…

1. A Company Intent on a Tailored Fit

Be sure you are working with a window covering company that specializes in custom treatments that fit precisely. Our installers measure the width in three places and the length in two places to make sure inside mount treatments fit the best. Detailed measurements are also taken around the window when drapery treatments are being made.

2. A Company Committed to Quality Materials

If a window treatment looks good but doesn't function like it should then it is not going to serve you well in the long run. Our firm has various price points for good, better, and best but we don't sell entry level quality treatments. Why, you might ask? Because we want your treatments to serve you well for years to come.

We live in Texas folks, and unless your window is located in an area that does not get much sun, we recommend blackout lining in all drapery, panels, and fabric shades. This will add years of life to these treatments and will also add insulative qualities to the window. It never hurts to have a lower electric bill. We will make these products with regular lining if you are insistent, but will explain to you the downside for consideration.

3. A Company Focused on Function

At times clients ask us to do things that are not industry standard or to make treatments that will not function with ease. If we are putting a large shade in a large window, it needs a clutch, end of story. If not, the shade will be cumbersome to raise and lower on a daily basis. It is worth paying extra to allow for ease of operation.

We get a request for blackout shades or drapery for master bedrooms a lot. If your budget allows, we highly recommend blackout drapery. Our clients love the way a completely dark space improves their sleep.

4. A Company Dedicated to Style

Our firm has a staff of designers. The beauty of the treatment and how it fits with the style of your home is important as well. The benefit of working with a firm that employs designers is you can feel comfortable knowing your treatments will enhance the space.

Do you want a simple solid fabric, a print fabric, or even a solid fabric with a decorative tape embellishment? We have thousands of options to fit your style.

5. A Company Concerned for Safety

We also recommend child safety features which work well for children, grandchildren, and even pets. People who are empty nesters may think the child safety features are not necessary and then along come the grandchildren. Motorized options are fantastic for safety since the cords are done away with. The ease of operation is good as well.

The five suggestions we listed will go a long way to assure you are happy with your window coverings for years to come. Most window coverings will stay in a home for an average of 10 to 20 years. Some shades may have some maintenance involved but simple repairs will keep good quality treatments operating for a long time.
